Naked Man of Pasha Uniform
The ‘Çıplak’ class were formed to provide security of Dockyard in the reign of Sultan Selim III (1789-1807). As their knees and arms are naked, they had the name ‘çıplak’ (naked), and their chiefs were called as ‘çıplak çavuşu’ (sergeant of naked). They were also called as ‘kaptanpaşa çıplağı’ as they served in security and ceremony in the Kasımpaşa Court Building. The ‘Çıplak’ class protecting the ‘Kaptan Paşa’ was abolished in 1808.
